Curing Breast Feeding Trouble
Breast feeding can cause lots of problems during the initial month. Breast feeding is actually new to the mother but it is a natural reflex action for the baby. The way you hold your baby to feed is the most important. The baby’s entire body should be facing you. Hold your baby with one hand and the other one should be supporting your breast. The nipple area should be in the baby’s mouth.During the process of breast feeding there is usually no pain, but if you find that your baby is biting you, gently open his mouth from the side and allow him to latch on correctly again. Make sure that you nurse your baby from both breasts for every feed.
If you are massaging your nipples or exercising them in any way, you will actually cause problems. When you have a bath take care to make sure you do not apply soap on the nipples as anything left behind will be swallowed by the baby. Your nipples do not need to be cleaned after every feed. Let them dry by themselves. If you find that your nipples are sore, all you need to do is apply the breast milk on it and let it dry.
If you have a lot of lumps in your breasts during feeding, use heating pads on your breasts to ease them out. These will allow your milk to flow more freely. These can also be cured by feeding your baby more frequently, or by just feeding more frequently.
If the pain in the breasts persists and you get a fever, you could most likely have a breast infection called mastitis. This will not go with any home remedies. You will have to visit the doctor and take some antibiotics so cure it and prevent any recurrence. You would need to drink a lot of water, and you can still continue feeding your baby through the treatment to heal the abscess in your breast.
If your nipples are inverted, your doctor will be able to guide you and help you get them sorted out by the time you are in the eighth month of your pregnancy.
