Curing Baldness with Drugs

Although men have few beauty problems as compared to women, a lot of them are plagued by the common problem of hair loss. This typical pattern of hair loss in males is known as androgenic alopecia and commences as the person advances in age. A lot of thought has gone into this problem. Currently you can avail of a variety of solutions for your thinning hair or receding hairline.

Solutions- The surgical solution of hair transplantation looks the best but is associated with the usual surgical risks. The whole procedure is killingly expensive as well. As a result, very few men can afford to go through it. Hair plugs, on the other hand look unnatural. Wearing a wig or toupee cannot compensate for your natural hair either.

Understanding the basic reason for your hair loss may provide you with a clue. You can then try a combination of different solutions in order to reverse the process of thinning hair.

Reasons for balding- An excess of testosterone in the body may result in accumulation of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which in turn causes hair fall.

Treatment- The FDA has so far approved of only two drugs to address the hair thinning problems.

Minoxidil helps in dialating the blood vessels thereby increasing the supply of nutrients to the hair follicles. This drug was originally used for controlling blood pressure.

Finasteride is a DHT blocker. It inhibits the enzymes from converting testosterone to DHT. However, this particular drug comes with a variety of side effects. You may notice a discharge from your nipple, testicular lumps and pain or problems with erection after taking this drug. Breathing difficulty or swelling of the mouth may also occur due to the side effects of Finasteride.

Palmetto is a natural DHT blocker. It functions in a similar manner without the side effects associated with Finasteride.
