Cologne for Men

Men are supposed to be rough and tough. This age old notion of the Macho man had resulted in the men of the last century shunning cosmetics and skin care products for fear of being labeled as a sissy. Thankfully things have changed now and men are willing to improve their looks with the aid of cosmetics and other enhancers alike. But what about perfumes? Men are now eager to try out new fragrances in order to feel good about themselves.

However, fragrances and perfumes are words that most people associate with women. The way for men to smell good is to settle for an EDT or Eau de Toilette. They are, in fact, much stronger than the faint and mild women’s perfumes. The colognes not only help to conceal the overpowering smell of grime and sweat, they also help to keep a man fresh and attractive.

Scents Used-The most concentrated and lasting fragrance for men is cologne. Manufacturers of various colognes try to produce a number of products by mixing and matching different odors. There are a total of nine scents that are used in varying degrees while preparing colognes for men.

Citrus or musky smells are supposedly attractive to women, while herbal, wood, powder or fruity perfumes help to recreate the fresh and natural scent of the body. Floral smells are used in cologne too although most people dismiss the smell of flowers as too feminine. Leather, on the other hand,  is an all time favorite with men all over the world.

Layers- Each cologne is made up of three distinct layers. The head or the topmost layer is light spicy or minty and evaporates fairly soon. The central layer commonly known as heart is composed of a longer lasting citrus or earthy scents. The base or the bottom layer of the cologne is sweet smelling and lasts for hours altogether.  Colognes are created by the dilution of alcohols and fragrant oils. Extracts from jasmine, orchid or lavender oil form the basis of most colognes.

The amount of effort that goes into the making of the product elevates the price. The blend of rich and aromatic scents is irresistible as far as women are concerned. Every man, therefore, looks forward to adding just a drop of his favorite cologne before going out to impress his lady love.
