Causes of Anal Fissures

Acute pain during the passage of stools along with bleeding and constant itching of the anus may be a cause for worry. However, such symptoms cannot really be pinpointed to a certain cause unless you get it examined by a registered medical practitioner. The reason for such symptoms may also be diagnosed as an anal fissure. So what is it actually? Lets find out.

An anal fissure is a small tear in the mid point of the anal lining. The fissure may also occur at the top or the bottom area of the lining as well.

Causes- there are quite a few reasons for developing an anal fissure. A few of the most predominant causes have been discussed below.

Anal Fissures is the commonest cause when the lining of the anus tears due to the passage of hard and dry stool. The opposite may sometime be responsible for causing the fissure too especially when diarrhea and inflammation of the anus and rectal area gets to put undue pressure on the anal lining leading to tearing of the membrane.

Abnormally high pressure in the sphincter which opens and closes the anal passage may be one of the possible causes of anal fissures.

Natural child birth in women may cause the anal lining to stretch beyond its normal capacity leading to an eventual tearing of the lining as well.

Digital examination of the anus or insertion of foreign bodies through the anal opening may cause both infection as well as tearing off the membrane resulting in the development of anal fissures. Sexual intercourse through the anus is another well known cause for anal fissures.

Rapid and sudden loss or gain of weight can also be one of the reasons for developing anal fissures. Abdominal fever as well as the deficiency of vitamin B6 can also be responsible for causing anal fissures.

Crohn’s disease a well as the inflammatory bowel disease leading to the passage of bloody liquid stools can be associated with the fissures in the lining of the anus as well.

A faulty or suppressed immune system, HIV AIDS along with syphilis and instances of anal cancer are known to cause the tearing of the anal membrane leading to anal fissures periodically.

An inordinately low fiber diet continued for a long period may also result in the development of  anal fissures.
