Causes for Having a Miscarriage

February 4, 2010

Pregnancy is a joyous occasion when you look forward to the impending birth of your own child. However, the period of nine long months is a time when you need to be extra cautious. Even the slightest of mistake may pose a risk for the fetus in your womb. Losing a child due to bodily problems is known as a miscarriage.

A natural miscarriage usually happens spontaneously without any kind of warning signal. It might also feel exactly like a heavy menstrual period associated with abdominal cramps. The initial period of the first three months known as the first trimester in medical jargon is the most crucial period during a pregnancy.

Losing your child is a particularly traumatic experience specially when you have absolutely no clue about the actual reason behind it. It is best to ask your doctor and learn the facts for yourself so that you can prepare yourself better the next time round. Read through to know the most common reasons for natural miscarriages.

Chemical Pregnancy-This type of miscarriage takes place spontaneously early in the pregnancy period. Medical science believes that the pregnancy is terminated due to abnormalities of the chromosomes.

Ectopic Pregnancy- A faulty implantation of the fertilized egg is known as ectopic pregnancy. The commonest site for ectopic pregnancy is the fallopian tube although the embryo may start to grow in the ovary as well. Severe cramps and stomach pains are noticed during such pregnancies and the fallopian tube may be damaged beyond repair during the process of miscarriage as well.

Blighted Ovum- This is a comparatively rare occurence where the embryonic sac grows even when the baby fails to develop normally. In most cases, such abnormal pregnancies are terminated medically while it may end naturally in form of a miscarriage too.

Missed Miscarriage- The loss of pregnancy is detected by conducting laboratory tests in such cases as the woman herself does not have any specific symptoms of miscarriage.

Molar Pregnancy- A chromosomal anomaly during the time of the fertilization is responsible for this condition. The pregnancy tissues continue to grow through the different stages while the baby stops growing altogether.
