Cancer in the Throat
This is known as undifferentiated metastatic carcinoma. It is called undifferentiated since you do not know where the disease has taken root. You will only take care of the symptoms and the site of the tumour, but you do not know where the origin is.
When you have throat cancer, you may see what looks like a node in the throat. You are likely to put hot and cold packs to reduce the swelling, since there is usually no pain and you will pass it off as normal. You will soon find it recurring more and more often, and it may suddenly appear much larger than it ever did before. This is why any small lump must be tested.
If this lump is cancerous, it needs to be removed along with the nodes surgically. Even removal, radiation and chemotherapy is done since the origin is not known. It is likely that a new lump will come up somewhere in the body at some time.
This form of cancer can be cured if you do not have another occurrence within five years. Even if you do not see any lumps, it is necessary to visit the doctor every six months.
You will normally get this form of cancer from excessive smoking and chewing tobacco. You may experience sore throats and have a hoarse voice due to these lumps. The chemotherapy that you do will give you excess pain in the throat.
When lumps form again, they will not always have the same shape and size. Not only can they come to other parts of the body, they can be long, short or much larger than the original one. Every lump would need to be removed and tested for cancer.
The radiation will cause you problems with swallowing. Drinking water and eating become very painful, and the throat becomes very dry. You will also lose your appetite.
