Beware of Late Night Snacks

It is common knowledge that over eating will cause you to gain weight. But did you know that eating at late hours will also cause fat to be stored in your body? In fact a lot of Americans put on weight simply because they can’t resist having a snack late at night. Although this may sound quite unbelievable, it is nonetheless true. Your body is not at its active best during the night. The metabolism is slow and whatever you eat turns into fat instead of boosting up your energy levels.

The habit of eating at night is not only compelled by hunger. You will find that people who are lonely will often turn to their refrigerator for solace late at night. Food becomes synonymous with comfort for them. You may wonder how can eating a few cookies hurt? But be wary of those innocent looking cookies which will manifest itself as fat on your body. It becomes doubly difficult to lose weight by exercise when you keep on eating tidbits late into the night.

If you intend to stay fit and healthy, you should consume fewer calories. People who lead sedentary lives should do well to remember that before eating every meal. However, our body follows a routine too, especially when it comes to metabolism of food. Mornings are the best time to consume carbohydrates. You should try to opt for lesser carbohydrates as the day wears on. Substituting it with protein rich food will definitely help you maintain your weight. It is a good idea to finish your meals a few hours before you go to bed. The body can then metabolize the food while you are still in an active state. If you feel hungry in the middle of the night drink a glass of water. Water will make you feel satiated without piling on those extra calories.
