Best Way to Shampoo your Hair

We have often envied women with clean, glossy, long hair and wished that we could have had such lustrous tresses ourselves. Buying expensive hair care products is not the solution. We often find that our hair gets hopelessly entangled every time we shampoo it causing excessive breakage.

People often assume that shampooing our hair is a simple exercise. It is not so. If we do not know the basic rules for cleaning our hair, we might just end up ruining it.

Before Applying Shampoo- The hair needs to be brushed thoroughly before wetting it. This loosens the dirt and the remnants of styling products on the hair strands.

Washing The Hair- The hair should be washed with lukewarm water first. This makes the hair manageable. The quantity of shampoo required varies according to the length and volume of the hair. Too much of shampoo will not clean more effectively, hence it is best to use a moderate amount of shampoo every time.

Method of Shampoo Application- The shampoo should not be directly applied on the scalp. Instead, it should be rubbed on the palms first and then spread evenly over the hair strands. Applying pressure on the hair will result in breakage. Care must be taken to work it in gently. Massaging of the scalp during a shampoo will also help in increasing the blood circulation. After leaving on the shampoo for a couple of minutes, it should be rinsed out thoroughly so that no residue remains. The steps should be repeated for a second time if the hair is extremely dirty or greasy. Finally, the water must be squeezed out gently from the wet hair and the hair dried lightly with a towel.  A conditioner must be applied along the length of the hair strands and rinsed thoroughly.

Combing the Hair after Shampoo- Wet hair must never be brushed out. Using a wide toothed comb is advisable while untangling the hair. It is necessary to begin at the ends and gradually work upwards. This prevents tearing of the hair.
