Battling Bulimia

Eating disorders are more common in women than in men since they are conscious about being beautiful. They feel that looking good is the same as being thin. There are mainly two types of eating disorders namely anorexia and bulimia. These can begin even when a person is an adult. Of the two, anorexia is more common. In the case of bulimia, the person may eat a lot at a certain time of the day, but after eating may go to the bathroom and bring it all up. They feel that it is alright to eat so much since they are going to vomit it out anyway. This causes a vicious cycle and the problem of weight loss begins. The idea of vomiting after eating becomes habit forming.

Sometimes a bulimic person may also resort to having laxatives besides vomiting. This will help them remove foods from the body and she can stay thin.

She feels that she can eat as much as she wants to. The frequency of bringing up foods from vomiting also affects the teeth as the bile tends to remain on it causing a loss of tooth enamel as well.

This is also a psychological disorder and the person needs to be handled by a specialist in the field to overcome this problem. Various other health problems will develop due to throwing up food. The menses will become irregular and the required vitamins, minerals and calcium will not be there in the body which is required to keep you healthy and fit.

A bulimic person needs to be encouraged and handled carefully, and they need to be told that healthy eating will not make them fat, but fit. A good idea would be to go to a support group and listen to people with the same problems. Always talk in an encouraging manner to someone suffering from bulimia. A bulimic person must be encouraged to look into the mirror and be happy with their body and outward appearance.

This problem needs to be dealt with as soon as possible as prolonged bulimia can affect the health and can also cause death.
