All About Tooth Braces

August 7, 2009

Some kids are very eager to use tooth braces. Others are worried about their appearance or the discomfort with its use. You can know more about teeth braces by taking up some research. Teeth braces will not only help in straightening your teeth but can also make your smile and appearance all the more better.

A majority of kids do not have perfect teeth. Many of them may also not have straight teeth. Many children have the problem of uneven teeth growth. Either you may experience the problem of crooked teeth or the alignment of your top or lower jaws may not be the same. The condition where your upper jaw is bigger than your lower jaw is called an overbite. It is called an underbite if your lower jaw is bigger than your upper jaw. Either way these conditions are referred to as malocclusion. This is the word used by dentists to refer to the shape of your mouth. An orthodontist or a brace specialist will be able to examine your mouth and suggest what type of braces you may need.

Types of Braces
Braces are not similar to what existed some years back. Nowadays braces are much less noticeable. You can buy braces which have a clear look or those which match your teeth as well as metal braces. Braces can also be placed behind your teeth so that no one can see them. The wires which are used on braces are also delicate and of better quality than what existed some years back. The new braces and wires help in straightening your teeth easily and quickly. The rubber bands also come in novel colors these days!

How Braces Work
Braces put steady pressure on your teeth by staying in place and helps in straightening them. A majority of children need regular braces for proper results. The rubber bands help in correcting the alignment of teeth and the wires help you to move your teeth. In case you need some extra help you may have to wear neck or head gear with wires connecting the teeth.
