Acupuncture Side Effects

Although Acupuncture oes not have any obvious or serious side efects associated with it, you need to be careful about certain factors if you decide to go in for it.
Dizziness- The patients need to be informed about the entire procedure before being subjected to it. A few patients do complain of extreme dizziness and a nausous feeling during the process. However, this often happens due to psychological factors specially a feeling of quesiness when one sees numerous needles being inserted in the body. The complaint is not of a serious physiological nature and subsides quickly enough.
Alcohol- Most people are advised not to proceed with Acupuncture within an hour of taking alcohol or recreational drugs. However, any adverse effects due to the presence of alcohol in blood have not been proved categorically. Abstinence from alcohol is normally recommended by experienced practitioners of Acupuncture.
Pregnancy- Acupuncture is not absolutely forbidden if you are pregnant. However, there are certain Acupuncture points present in the lower back and abdomen which needs to avoided if you are in the family way. It is best to consult with your Acupuncture specialist and disclose your condition well in advance.
Pain- There is almost no pain associated with the practice of Acupuncture. Some people may feel the sharp pricking sensation of needles while a few others complain of a dull, throbbing sensation in and around the area of insertion.
Side Effects- Some people may actually experience a worsening of the conditions for a short time after being subjected to Acupuncture. A change in sleeping patterns and digestive problems are a few other side effects normally experienced by people who resort to Acupuncture. However, all of these effects are for a short term only and Acupuncturists maintain that they are an indication that the patient is well on his way to recovery.
